I have spent last few years on data integration using SAP BODS. I am now being offered an opportunity to work on SAP HCI. Was little perplexed on the international market of HCI and if it will be a good switch.
In past I have worked on Dell’s Atmosphere Boomi and Boomi is a good in demand cloud integration solution.
Can someone please suggest if switching to SAP HCI would be a good decision ?
I don’t see it as a zero sum game. The DS component in HCI is much more simplified, when compared to a full Data Services environment. Rather than creating involved, complex jobs with dynamic orchestration through work flow structures, HCI jobs are far more atomic - tiny little A->B data flows. Great for setting up simple little interface but it’s an entirely different beast from a full Data Services environment.
It’s useful to know both Data Services and HCI but I don’t see why one would have to switch between one and the other?
Thanks Erik - I am in service industry and we work on projects to serve client requirements. I have been working on Integration Projects using BODS since past few years but this new opportunity to work on SAP HCI DS (cloud integration between On premise and Cloud platforms) came my way and I considered seeking suggestions. Hope this clarifies
As a consultant, I am very familiar with the services industry but in our company we generally do not pigeon-hole people into one thing or the other. If you know both DS and HCI, that’s awesome and you can work on both kind of projects, if that’s what you like to do. (But as any consultant knows, you don’t always get to pick your projects…)
If you just want to learn something knew, I don’t think it’s bad to try SAP HCI for a while? Do a few projects, get some good experience and then you can always go back to Data Services? Or better yet, take on a more wide-spread role where you can use both?
