You should go back to the requirement specs.
In addition you could validate the SQL queries using an editor, to ensure the right data is there, in the first place.
As Dessa says the vendor should have tested, validated the results and be getting you to sign off.
the vendor has left now and the docs are available but my reporting manager wants me to debug them on the spot
i have even got warnings from him that i should be able to find solution
i generally try 2 validate the sql query with DB and see why the figures dont match .Most of time i have to call the vendor and it seems that a colum was missed etc in DB and universe.
I want to take to take control of universe and reports and understand the logic and every Detail of DB and Source jois mappings . i want to avoid dependency on vendor … he might come for handover again .
Please let me know what all things to ask him.
please suggest me some apporach based on your experiences .
As Mak 1 suggested, get all the documents in hand and give them a read to understand what is what such as business logic and all. At least you should understand requirement specification and design documents. Once you do, you should be able to get a basic idea to debug the reports. If you’re stuck somewhere, pour out on B B!
