I have what seems to be a bug, and I am curious if there are other users that have the same issue. I created a Live Office query that included some prompt query parameters. I then tied those parameters to cells in the spreadsheet. The worksheet worked great, and had a really cool look and feel at this point.
When I saved and closed the worksheet, then re-opened it I lost the connections at times. I have seen where I lost the Live office connection all together, and in other cases I only lost the tie to the excel cells.
In the case where the tie to the excel cells was lost, I was able to go in and see where the program appears to still think it is tied to the appropriate excel cells, but it would still not work. When I specifically went in and re-tied those parameters to the cells, it would work again for the open workbook. Those ties broke again when I saved and closed.
Are you amending the base report in any way? Live office tends to be a bit fussy, if you don’t finalise the base report then produce your doc the cells / charts / tables lose their relationship with the original webi object.
This “feature” is actually listed in the documentation.
I found that the best thing to do, when I had to amend the Webi report was to delete the object in the Live Office Doc, amend in Webi and then re-import the webi object into the Live Office Doc.
Are you running the part of the fix pack 2.6 applicable for the Live Office cleint?
At the time when I saved the worksheet I didn’t ammend the base report. I will try testing, but I believe I ran a test to just try creating a query tied to cells, then save that worksheet. The bug persisted.
I saw later that there are posts referring to the fix pack. I will get that and make sure it is installed to see if that fixes the issue. I didn’t see any specifics as to what the fix pack was fixing outside of the issue of rolling a date forward.
Thank you. I agree with you thus far. I really like the concept, and I think it has a big coolness factor. But I have to say that the bugs will kill it for me, and would ultimately make me look at another product.
I am still having this problem, but have been able to get a little farther down the troubleshooting path.
The problem seems to be limited to my PC.
When I un-install and re-install the problem persists.
I spent a while trying to find EVERY file that might be lingering, then tried to delete it. No luck
The tie to the cell is technically still there, the issue seems to be that the refresh operation tied to the cell change event goes away. I know this because I can change the tied cell, then force the refresh, and the data will update correctly.
I have been trying to get a way to execute the macro in the live office document via VBA, but there doesn’t seem to be any good documentation on how those methods can be called.
The issue seems to be tied up in the save operation.
Did you ever come up with a resolution to this, or did you end up looking at other products? We are having the same problem and before we roll it out to our entire organization want to fix the issue.
I eventually found that the addin was being disabled by excel on an infrequent basis. Once I found that out, I was able to just go in once and a while to enable the add-in and haven’t had a problem. It is buggy still at that point, but it works. I have multiple LO worksheets that have been actively used for greater than 18 months and they perform reliably most of the time.
I’m experiencing the same problem you mentioned:
when prompts are tied to an excel cell, closing and opening the excel loosses the tie between the webi objects and the original webi report.
It becomes impossible to refresh the excel.
At this point did your live office menu dissapear in excel? In my case the live-office menu is still there however the "Go To Object … " menu is greyed-out.
You mention re-enabling the excel add-in.
Is this through C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\Live Office 12.0\enable_addin.exe ?
I tried that, however no luck. My webi objects do not re-appear in the excel file.
Or is there something else you can advise?
btw: I’m on LO SP3 & FP 3.4 (although I see the SP2 and FP2.3 is still installed)
