Version XI 3.1 SP2
I have four chars in a webi report, which have similar measures and dimension but just represent different dimensions, and all 4 charts are created off 1 single report. For eg. Cities are A,B,C, D then 1 graph is displaying data for A, other for B, next for C and so on.
Users need an ability to click on 1 webi chart/link so that a full page chart or report opens corresponding to the parameters this chart was run. So users not only want the link to take them to the original report but they also do not want to run/refresh the report again, it should just open the same chart in a full page view without them having to enter parameters/prompts again.
You can have a sectioned report based on city object and have charts within each section.
Links for each section (A, B, C etc) will be created in the left pane
.
Can you please elaborate on the solution? How can I create a sectioned report?
And can ‘Links’ carry same report parameters as well for which the existing chart had run? If yes, how?
Take the example of eFashion universe
You can create section on state or city and show other columns in the detail block or in a chart
Then use the section properties “start one new page” option, and click on “Map” tab on left pane to browse to each page containing a state value
Assuming that all the data has come into the report, the link is static and just a pointer to each state
.
Are you referring to “Repeat on every new page” option, I found it under “Relative Position” header when I select a “Section”? Also what exactly is it supposed to do, I checked it and there is no apparent change in the report?
And when I go to ‘Map’ I do not see different pages there as well, containing static values? Did not get much out of the statement “the link is static and just a pointer to each state”.
How are we clicking on a section and moving to the report for which the section had the data as per my initial requirement?
I am sorry just new to Sectioning/Mapping…any assistance would be appreciated.
Its rather “start on a new page” when you highlight the section border in structure mode.
It shows each section value on a new page even if it ends in middle of page
You wont see pages on Map tab, but a link for each value in the section. On clicking it takes to a particular section set to display on each page
.
Excellent!!!..viewing in ‘Structure Mode’ did the trick and I was able to view the option you were referring to…thanks for that.
I can see the dimensions on different pages from ‘Map’ tab.
My requirement however was that I need all these charts at one page and then users needed the ability to go to the chart they want by clicking on the chart ( we can do that from ‘Map’ option I guess now) but we arent keeping all the charts at one page still ? Like there are 4 states A, B, C and D, then the report should display the chart like this on the first page -
A B
C D
Then on the basis of users selection they can choose to go to any of the dimension.
I told to use the “start on new page” option because of your original requirement
The out of the box Map option should give you more or less the same functionality which you are asking to display all charts in one page and then go each chart on clicking
.
I understand, only thing is in this case there will just be 1 chart/page displayed at a time. But user also wants to see all 4 charts at one page for comparison, and then they may or may not want to have a look at any one of those charts on one page for further analysis of the data.
For that can I just create a new report tab, and create 4 different charts on this report tab, and apply filter on the basis of the dimension so it will display the similar data as is being displayed in each section. Do I need to link this report tab’s charts etc with the sectioned report?
Even if its possible to link that report to sectioned report which I doubt, I would say you will be making things complicated.
Just give this built-in functionality to users and they should be contended I guess
.
Anyways thanks for your inputs Haider…much appreciated.
Since its a requirement I will have to explore ways to provide them 4 graphs at one page for comparison and then probably use sectioned report to let them navigate to the desired destination.
