Limit to Deski data-providers in InfoView?

Hi,

does anyone know whether there is a limit to the number of data-providers a Deski report may have when running in InfoView.

We are using BOXi R2 and have rolled out the Deski client to some of our users. But we are investigating using InfoView for the remainder. Many of our reports have multiple data-providers and many of these have a mixture of universe based and free-hand SQL data-providers.

One particular report is important to many of these users and I have been investigating running it in InfoView. Whenever it is run the Refreshing Data pop-up appears but after an hour the refresh has not completed - it usually takes about two or three minutes in Deski. It has 18 data-providers - 8 free-hand SQL and 10 universe based. I have put each data-provider on its own in a report and all of them run successfully in InfoView. Most take a few seconds, a few of them take up to about 30 seconds. Then I built the report back up again by adding the data-providers back into it and testing it in InfoView at several of these stages. With 17 data-providers it ran in a couple of minutes but when the 18th was added back in the run time became too long and I cancelled it. I tried a different combination of 17 data-providers and it ran in a couple of minutes again.

There is work that we could do on this and other similar reports to reduce the number of data-providers they have but are there limits within InfoView that restrict what it is able to run? If there are, can these be modified? Or, is this likely to be a limitation of our BOXi server?

Thanks for any help,

Clive.

So far I have not seen any such restriction in the number of data providers in Desk-I. In Web-I I heard it is 100. But I believe no one goes there. Are you able to run the problematic query separately?

Hi Jansi,

thanks for that.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be one particular query that is causing the problem. With all of the queries it runs but with no sign of completing. Remove any one of them and it finishes within a couple of minutes.

We have another report with more queries that works fine in InfoView but all of its queries were built against universes in Business Objects.

So I will continue investigating. As you suggest, it may be one rogue query that in combination with others is causing the problem.

Thanks,

Clive.
