Can anyone help me out in understanding the key differences (in detail) in the design considerations to optimize universes that will be used for WebIntelligence reporting and universes that will be used for BusinessObjects reporting.
No. I doubt anyone can tell you this. In my opinion, there should be no change in universe design because of WebI.
If you find that all reports require that you build multiple data providers from 1 universe, you may find the need to consolidate multiple facts into a single table. However, you can generally solve this problem by the “proper” use of contexts and aliases.
The bottom line is that you shouldn’t need to rebuild your database or universe for WebI.
The only thing I might add to what Steve said is that in prior versions (2.7.x and earlier) Webi could not do variables. So you might have to create more objects in the universe as a result. Now that Webi supports local variable creation, I think that issue goes away.
Oh, I was just trying to be helpful. Since this isn’t the WebI 6 forum, but the Designer forum – and since not everyone can/will upgrade just yet – some folks might not have realized you were referring to version 6…
