Has anyone heard anything yet about Java 8 support within the XI3.1 platform? I don’t see any mention of it as yet on the PAM docs…

Haven’t heard / read anything for 3.1.
Only BO version currently supporting 8 is 4.1 SP4.

From what we have heard, support for Java 8 is only on the client side, not the server side. You’ll need to stay on Java 7 on the servers.
Correct, as per the PAM :).
You also have to be careful if you use the Crystal Reports Java viewer, as that is not supported with JRE 8.

Oracle says Java SE 7 public updates would likely end in April 2015 (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/eol-135779.html). I assume that this also means Java RE 7?
BOE XI 3.1 remains in Mainstream Maintenance until December 2015 (PAM)
If BOE XI 3.1 is not supported on Java 8, then potentially we would forced to run it against Java 7 (potentially insecure as not being updated) for up to 8 months…
Should SAP enable support of Java 8 in BOE XI 3.1 before April 2015?

I believe they should, but whether that happens remains to be seen.

Yeah I think they should also, so I’ll be raising a ticket with SAP asking for information on Java 8 support in BOE XI 3.1. I suggest others do too in order to raise this issue’s profile with SAP, especially as there are no scheduled Service Packs for BOE XI 3.1 currently in the SAP BUSINESSOBJECTS MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE, it is of concern.

4.1 SP5 (released earlier this month) also supports JRE 8!
