We are facing a storage Issue related to Cache in our BO Installation directory.
In my Install directory, C:\Program Files\Business Objects\cache is one of the folder. It grows enormously about 7 GigaBytes. It has sub folders like FP_2_1,FP_2_2,FP_3_3,SP_2,SP_3. seems to be service and fix packs.
What this directory will store as all the cacheing activities are captured in the Data filder.Does the files and folders in this directory really needed at all? Because it consist of files which are same replica of the Installation directory.Even if I try to move this file to some other location also It throws an error stating that “File Path is too long”.Please consider this as a critical as we are running out of space in our production box.
Our Installation is of BO Server OS : Windows server 2003 SP3 with Business Objects Edge 3.1 SP3 FP3
If it was me, I would delete the oldest of those and wait to see if something blew up. If I could get a copy somewhere else, all the better, but I’d delete it (maybe after a good tape backup).
If that does not cause any issues over a day or so of work, I’d get more aggressive and delete these right up to the latest, which I might leave…
If you’ve not called SAP, it sounds worth it (if you have support).
we are having similar problems on Linux. Anyone know what the installCache folder is used for … its chewing up the disk space. Can we delete the contents?
Viewing what this folder does in BOXI 4 (it is likely it probably behaves the same in BOXI 3.1) this does indeed provide an installation cache for not only the original BOXI 4 installation but also for service pack and fix packs.
I would be careful deleting the contents of this folder as more recent SP’s of BOXI 4 (SP1 and SP2 for example) look for the previously cached copies of the original installation files before they install the new SP1/SP2 files and if they are not there the installer continuously errors and will refuse to install the SP.
Brent has contributed the most sensible advice on this however. If you want to experiment with deleting the files keep a backup ready and delete the files in small steps.
I have a test system with FP 3.5 installed after a fresh install with SP3 included. I have deleted the FP_3_5 directory in the cache and installed the FP 3.6 without any problem (at least it didn’t complain and Infoview works).
I don’t know if it would be so easy with a Service Pack…
Anyway, de-installing the FP 3.5 when cache was empty did destroy BO (SIA does not start, CCM .exe is missing…) without any warning or check!!!
The folder “C:\Program Files\Business Objects\cache” contains information about what is being installed hence should not be deleted.
If deleted, it will throw errors when trying to install the next patch.
It also contains records of the files that are associated with each Business Objects installation on the system (e.g. WAR files, DLL files).
Software Inventory Tool also uses the Cache folder to monitor changes made to a system’s Business Objects software via Business Objects’ installers for original installs and updates, including Critical Hot Fixes (CHF) and Service Packs (SP).
Do not move the InstallCache to a different directory.
The following actions can be performed :
Delete the logs inside the
\Business Objects\BusinessObjects
Enterprise 12.0\Logging Folder
Delete the contents inside the \Business Objects\BusinessObjects
Enterprise 12.0\Data Folder. They are cached contents and will be recreated again.
Move the File Store (\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise
12.0\FileStore) to a different location.
Can the Data folder (Enterprise 12.0\Data Folder) be configured and moved to a different drive/location? We will have reports that run and use up nearly all the remaining free space on the C: drive.
