Is BOv6 CWM (Common Warehouse Model) compatible?

I didn’t know what this referenced, so I went to google and searched. Imagine my surprise (and pleasure, to be honest) when this topic was the second item on the google search results. 8) We did some work to get that to happen, and it appears that google may be starting to spider our actual topics.
But back to your question… I found the CWM info (link here for those that want to read more). A search of the BusinessObjects site found this press release where they talk about support for standards like CWM. So, in a nutshell, I would assume that the answer is “yes”. Specifically that is for Data Integrator, not the BusinessObjects reporting tools.

For metadata import into BO (5 or 6), you can look into Universal Metadata Bridge (sorry I have no link for this), which is a download available from BO if you’re current on maintenance. This product takes a CWM XML File and creates a Universe from it.
The product is not two-way however, so data in your universe (such as descriptions and whatnot) does not flow back into your CWM model.
We attempted to use this with Oracle Designer / Warehouse Builder, but we found that the Business Naming did not transfer correctly from the CWM document to the universe, so all of our object names were the actual table/column names and not the Business Name like we wanted.

Interesting thread.
Just making sure: There is no way to export a universe itself to XML, and then perhaps use the XML to import the universe into another repository? Or do you mean there is no way to do this using Universal Metadata Bridge?
Random question, I know, but someone asked me yesterday about migrating a universe using XML.
We were trying to migrate the universe between 2 repositories, but could not. (Turns out I did not have ‘overwrite privileges’ in the target repository, but that’s another story.)
Thanks for any info.

Bumping topic…anyone have detailed info on Universal Metadata Bridge and whether it will allow a universe to be exported/imported in XML format?
Thanks,
Judy

I am trying to figure that out now. I can post results, but would be interested in hearing from other folks too. One of my questions revolves around the idea of creating the XML file for UMB without using Data Integrator, as my current client does not use DI but is still interested in this process.

Thanks Dave. Sounds similar to my current client - he was wondering if a universe can be imported/exported in XML format. (See my previous post for more detail about his question.)
I’ll look forward to any info.
