IPS (BIP) 4.1 SP02 with BODS 4.2 Crashes Tomcat 7

I’ve tried various combinations of Tomcat and Java to get a test server up for Data Services 4.2. PAM says BIP/IPS can take Java 7/Tomcat 7, but DS4.2 can only take Java 6. I’m now back to Java 6u45 with Tomcat 7.0.52. With IPS alone, it seemed fine and I could get the CMC up, and all the servers showed healthy in the CCM, but once I layer BODS 4.2 on top, Tomcat crashes any time I try to hit a web app (CMC/DS Console).

The Java and Tomcat are preinstalled (and working prior to install) and then the web apps installed using Wdeploy. I seem to recall there are a couple of "undocumented settings I had to tweak when I did this for BOE 3.1.

How is everyone else getting on with BODS 4.2? Should these versions be compatible with IPS 4.1 SP02 and DS 4.2?

Hold the phone. Seems that there may be a bug in this version of WDeploy, or perhaps pilot error. There are directories missing after “successful” deployment of the webapps using WDeploy. We are now seeing it on the full BIP deploy, as well.

Anybody already have a handle on that?

I have had no problems with IPS 4.1 SP2 and DS 4.2 SP1 on the same Windows environment.

IPS 4.1 SP2 installs Tomcat and I believe it also installs Java 7 - while the DS 4.2 PAM does not mention this configuration, it does refer to SAP note 1740516.

SAP note 1740516 contains the complete DS/IS and BO/IPS compatibility matrix and supersedes the information in the PAM.

If you refer to note 1740516, you will see that IPS 4.1 SP2 and DS 4.2 SP1 deployed on the same server is fully supported as of December 2013. Deploying in this matter results in Tomcat 7.0 and Java 7 (I believe - we deployed in this manner and we ended up with Java 7 rather than 6) but this should be fully supported.

So as to your original post - I have not seen this problem in our environments. That does not mean that there may not be a bug, but I’m sure we would have noticed if there were errors like that?

Yes, we found that if we do a default Tomcat install, we get Tomcat 7.0.32 and Java 6u45 and things seem OK. But we will be required to go with Tomcat 7.0.52. So when we use wDeploy to install to a preinstalled 7.0.52, there are missing directories in the web apps. We may have to do it the hard way.
