Is it possible to create a report to check what reports are running on the server? I know you can check the instance manager to see what reports are running, but I want to create a webi/crystal report and send to my inbox. Is there a way to do it?
You can use our free CMS data driver and report against your CMS straight from Webi - to extract and report on all scheduled instances information, history, success/failure, etc.
Thanks Atul,
Something like this would be nice to have but wondering if at some point in the near future a cost will be applied in order to continue using this.
I don’t want to recommend a path for the company to take, which initially looks good but later detours to a separate and costly avenue.
If anyone else has something they built or an idea on how to do it directly from BO I would appreciate it.
A lot of people ask this so I’ll do my best to respond:
What’s CMS/Connect Community? CMS/Connect Community Edition is a completely free, no-cost add-on that any XI3.x customer can use to add query and reporting (via Web Intelligence) of their CMS metadata to their installation. You can query for instances information, folders, reports, documents, ownership, date/time creation etc.
Why do you give it away for free? Reporting on the Business Objects CMS metadata has been extremely difficult to do ever since the backend database was designed to store metadata in a proprietary format that is no longer human-readable. Existing tools like Query Builder , macros and SDK/API calls are complex and not reusable. Still, it’s not something we feel people should have to pay as other free solutions exist today (BOB downloads section). So that’s why we provide this native CMS data driver for free.
I hope this clarifies things somewhat. Let me know if you have additional questions.
Thanks again Atul, I and I am sure most of here appreciate and can use this tool.
But as mentioned, there have always been applications given out for FREE and this was great for a period.
However, most of the time the FREE tool turned into a ‘gotcha’ tool where a COST gets associated with the tool making it no longer a FREE tool.
I hope you understand where I am coming from but again, I appreciate your followup.
