Installing CR Developer (or 2011 ver 14.0.2.364RTM)

I’ve just finished installing CR Developer on my laptop… how do I go about connecting to our Oracle DBs? I have ORACLE 10 installed with TNSNAMES.ora input for the location of our DBs.

Is there anything else that I need to do on my end? I’m unable to connect to the DBs… i’m assuming it’s a matter of routing issue if so and i’ll have to get with our network folks but before doing so, i just want to check with you experts!

Also, what directories do i need to backup in case of disaster for our crystal reports and what do people use to back them up? (i’m assuming CR does not have its own backup function.

Quick questions. Is your OS 64-bit? If so, did you install the 32 bit client? Crystal only recognizes 32-bit connections. I see that you are on Oracle 10, we recently had an issue where 10.2.0 did not work for us, but 11g did. It turns out there are some patches for 10 (issues with 64-bit OS’s) that would have fixed the issue.

I hope this helps.

i believe i’ve installed the 32 bit version… (how does one tell?)

i looked in the ABOUT > More Info and i see a whole bunch of 32bit DLLs installed.

Thanks for the heads up about the 64 bit vs 32 bit!

definitely sounds like you need to install ORACLE 32bit for this to work… it sounds like you have 64 bit installed instead of 32 bit… so install 32bit as well, add the correct ORA in the 32bit folder, and u should be able to see it working with crystal.
