Installing Business Objects 5.1.8 on Microsoft Vista OS

Hi,
Hope someone can help with my question.
I’ve downloaded Business Objects 5.1.8 provided by a company I am currently contracting for. I was provide the software and universes needed.

  • My first and foremost question is can BO 5.1.8 work on the a VISTA Operating System.

  • When I try to start a query(or click on ‘Edit Data Provider’ icon)provided to me I get the following error “This application has failed to start because OCIW32.dll was not found. Re-installing the program may fix this problem”

Reinstalling did not work.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Diana,

The OCIW32.dll error indicates that the oracle client software hasn’t been installed on your machine.
try loading the oracle client and try again.

Let me know how you got on…

Thanks Rim for your response. I found the oracle client but I cannot tell which one would be used for VISTA operating system.

I think all of the later Oracle client versions work with Vista either Oracle 10g or 11 should work on Vista.

But be aware that BusObjects 5.x is really an old version  and is not supported at all anymore as far as I am aware.

This can and will work.

However, BO 5.x (as a very old BO version) may have problems with this combination of OS and the Oracle version.

So it’s just about trying to install it and check whether it works or not :expressionless:

in all case, if it run fine, don’t wait any support brom BOSAP in case of trouble because it wouldn’t be supported…
