When installing XI 3.1 on Windows, when the “Select Web Application Server” Screen comes up, are we supposed to choose only one (1) of the supplied options (ie. “Java Web Application Server” OR “IIS Web Application Server”)
OR do I simply select both of the options (ie. “Java Web Application Server” AND “IIS Web Application Server”).
I have installed IIS already on the box, so I guess I’m somewhat confused as to if IIS is all I need OR if I need IIS and Java Web Application Server as well.
IIS is all you need, unless you are using Performance Management, in which case you will need a Java based web server such as Tomcat. You do not need both. In fact, very rarely do I see anyone using both. Most deployments use only Apache/Tomcat.
Tomcat runs the Java version of InfoView, IIS runs the .NET version. The Java version has a LOT more features than the .NET version, especially in WebI. Like Mike said, it’s required for Performance Management and Dashboards and I believe it’s also required for Voyager.
