Input file repository server is down error in BOXI cluster

Hello,

I have BO XI R2 cluster of 2 servers.

ServerA and ServerB

Input and output file repository on both the serevr is pointing to shared drive on serverA

\ServerA\Input
\ServerA\output

I am able to schedule reports and it works fine.
but when user access report using crystal report software he gettes error message “Input file repository is down”.
I have checked services( Input FRS and output FRS) on both the server and it is working fine.

Also bot the services are listining on port 6402,6403

User is able to do telnet on port 6402 & 6403 from his desktop successfully.

Please advice

Thanks

In a BOXIR2 Cluster only one input and output FRS service should be active at a time. It should not be active on both the servers. Stop the INPUT and OUTPUT FRS on one of the servers, keeping the other active

Hello Vislok,

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried by stopping Input/output FRS service on server B and now services are running on server A only. Also in CMC for Server A Input/output FRS is showing running and for server B it is stopped.

Still getting same error message " Input file repository is down"

Please advice.

Thanks

Thats Strange. Did you try to give the folder path again in the INPUT and OUTPUT FRS in the CMC.

Also please try to restart the CMS again on both the servers. I hope in the Input and Output FRS properties in the CCM the CMS Cluster Name is given.

What happens if you do have two running within a cluster? Ours has been running this way since I was hired 3 months ago

ROBOh07 what version of BO are your running?

vislok (BOB member since 2008-11-05)

BOXIR4

specific version is 11.5.10.1263

are the Input and output FRS servers on different boxes are enabled in the CMC?

  1. There is no XIR4. XIR2 SP4 instead.
  2. You don’t stop the FRS servers on one of the two nodes. The CMS is going to make sure only the set that was started first is the active one.

So even if both sets of I/O servers are showing that they’re alive and enabled, cms is actually only using one of them?

Our configuration uses two BO servers running in parallel (all services are installed on each server). We do have them clustered.

That’s correct. Do not disable the other set - if your active set is down, CMS is not going to enable the other set for you. It will only try to activate an enabled inactive FRS if the current active counterpart becomes unavailable.

Hello All

Thanks for reply .

It is working now. The problem was i did not gave FQDN of the server in configuring command for the input and ouput repository service.

I was using only server name, by specifing FQDN all started working.

Hi,

we are using the SAN Software to make the SAN Space available to the clustered BO Servers. The SAN space is used for the FRS like a drive letter and not as a UNC path. Due to problems faced in the environment related to FRS and CMC we were running one set of FRS servers only. On further investigation and rolling back the clock it was discovered that the problem was with the SAN switching software which was not fixed earlier.

Thanks guys for pointing out my mistake.
