Good morning (or afternoon, depending on where you are).
Got a strange issue for a number of our clients. These clients are all running BO 6.5.1 on Win2K3 with an Oracle backend (both Oracle 9i and 10g).
And it seems to be happening more and more - I had actually opened a request with BO back when they supported 6.5, but it was very close to the end of the support, and they kind of just held on to it until the support ran out…so, here I am, months later still struggling with it.
Basically, it seems like there’s some type of disconnect somewhere…it seems to happen often for a number of our clients, but, for other clients, it never happens - and, of course, we can’t really find any differences between the systems.
What happens is that, all of a sudden, users can get to the InfoView login page, but when attempting to actually log in, they either hang, or get an HTTP error message. (I believe it was the 501 error, but whenever I try and recreate it, i dont get the error, I just hang).
We seem to always be able to resolve this by restarting the WebI services via Start --> Programs --> Stop Server/Start Server
I’ve had our Apache/Tomcat guys review the logs, and they have come up with nothing. They keep asking me to engage the vendor, and I keep having to tell them that we dont get support on this version anymore. We are in the middle of trying to upgrade most of our clients to XIr2, but there are some who just will not upgrade.
Is this anything that others have seen before? We have a work around, and we are scheduling nightly reboots of some of the Win2K BO servers to try and reduce the number of occurances of this issue, but it still seems to happen. It’s happening on both clients who use the system alot (over 100 daily scheduled reports) and with some who barely use the system at all.
This does also seem to impact the BCA. Generally, the BCA errors logged during this time (if there are any errors logged at all) are: (306) LoginAs Failed.
We’re open to any suggestions from anyone who might have seen simular issues in the past.
Thanks - and, if I can get the exact HTTP error the next time it happens, I’ll update the post.
