Infoview hangs following click on Publications link.

BCAP services have been running for approx 15 minutes during which the Publications screen has been available.
Suddenly, this link stops working, and clicking on it causes the session to hang

When it hangs do you get an error message?

Has the BCA Publisher Application Service stopped or is it still running?

mart (BOB member since 2004-02-10)

i am not getting any error message and click on Publications just shows a white screen.

Restarting the BCAP services makes this work again for another period of time but then the hanging behaviour returns.

We have exactly the same problem. Did you get a fix for this?

We’re also experiencing this problem when connecting to an Oracle 9i repository, but ok with SQL Server. Did anyone manage to resolve this problem? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

Did any of you find a resolution to this problem.

It is happening to us regularly. We think it may be due to sessions left hanging by people connecting to Infoview via Citrix which would have a slower connection.

Does anyone know of any settings in Citrix / IE that need to be changed to speed up the loading of pages so that they don’t time out and cause the session to hang?

Regards,

Gina

Just an update. Tech support are suggesting that this issue is caused by Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 which is unsupported in Publisher 6.5.

However we were having this issue before SP 1 was installed. Has anyone had any issues using Publisher with SP 1?

Thanks for any help.

Gina

Hi,

I’m getting the same issue here and Techies say to set the controller heap size int he registry to 1024. I’ve done that but same problem remains.

Just wanted to know if you guys have the issue solved?

Regards
Andy

HI All,

We just solved the problem I think…

T’was the version of MDAC used. We were using 2.8.1117. BCAP does not run well on this new version of MDAC. If you use 2.8.0xxxx it would run fine…This works for me in Windows 2000 server.

You will need to go into the registry settings to check your version and the rollback version. This would tell you what version you will get if you do a uninstall.

MDAC automatically updates with “windows upgrade” with windows xp and above … this includes Windows 2003. So you cant control the MDAC version.

You will need to go into the registry settings to check your version and the rollback version. This would tell you what version you will get if you do a uninstall.

To do a uninstall go to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\DASetup\ directory and run dasetup /u. You should check the version first before you uninstall. Its no use uninstalling if you cant get the correct version of MDAC.

I think of this as a bug … whatever works with MDAC 2.8 should work with MDAC 2.8 SP1 or SP2. But not BCAP 6.5.2.

============================================

Known issues for MDAC 2.8 SP1 (2.81.1117.6)
MDAC
• Security enhancements: Additional security enhancements were made in MDAC 2.8 SP1. Some of these enhancements cause small behavior changes. We recommend that you fully test this version of MDAC with your application in a test environment before you apply MDAC to a production environment.

Setup
• Windows rollback: On a computer that is running Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition, if you try to roll back your MDAC installation to an earlier version, the computer is left in a mixed state where your files are not all from the same version of MDAC. This behavior occurs because of a problem with the setup technology that is included with Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
311720 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311720/) MDAC rollback may fail on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Millennium Edition
• MDAC 2.8 SP1 MDAC_TYP.exe file and Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP: If you try to run the MDAC 2.8 SP1 MDAC_TYP.exe file on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, installation fails, and you receive an error message. To update the MDAC version that is installed together with Windows XP or with Windows Server 2003, you must use operating system service packs or Windows Update.

Well done Laughandcry, for getting it fixed.

I have tried to follow this up, but unfortunatly we don’t have a DASetup folder on the server. Trying to find out why.

We have MDAC version 2.82.1830 (SP2) which was loaded with WINDOWS SERVER 2003 SP1.

Has anyone else had success with this resolution or any other fixes?

Thanks,

Gina

hi Gina,

The DASETUP in your you c:\program files\common folder directory, I’m not sure but i saw this directory on my windows directory

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\dasetup
but dasetup program was not there.

Talk to tech support they helped me remove the MDAC. they can help you get to the dasetup program.

Good Luck to You.
