Can Infoview be used without Webintelligence? If it can, how is Infoview launched? The manuals say ‘Launch your browser and type in the URL’. What URL? Incidentally, I’m still using Business Objects 5.1.6.

you seem to make confusion between webi, infoview and bo full client but it’s right it’s sometine not clear :
You seems to use Business Objects Reporter 516. it’s a software like word or excel and need, to access data, oracle or another dbms middleware on your computer.
Webintelligence let you able to access some BO functionnality in a web browser like Internet Explorer and no need sgbd middleware (it use it on the server). In this case, you have to connect the URL of the webi server to login with your bo account. Is your company has Webintelligence installed ?
infoview is one “brick” of webintelligence product but also use by BO for the full client (it’s the module which let you able only to refresh reports, not create new ones)
Then, there is also BOZA product, which is a Business Objects Full Client “light” because it is designed for users having only webi and it does not requires dbms any more. On webi, you can then use BOZA to visualize reports or create new one. First time, ZABO module is downloaded from webi server to your client computer and installed.
Do you have access to BOZA ? Hopping it’s explanations are usefull
[Moderator Edit: Others might know the product as ZABO - Zero-Admin BusinessObjects…AMC]

We currently use BO516 on a citrix server and have done for years. It’s only recently that Webintelligence and Infoview have been mentioned within our organisation. The citrix server that we use is NOT a web server and we don’t have Webintelligence installed. Having said that, I have been informed that I can use Infoview without a Web Server and without Webintelligence as all that it needs to work is a browser. Have I been misinformed?

As you said, it depend what is the meaning, in your company of the “infoview” word. Ask question of your IT guys to make you clarify the situation. If you can access BO ressources via webi, ask them the URL of the webi server (something like http://computer_name:port/wiasp/"
