Informix 5.0 on Unix

I have a client running Informix 5.0 on Unix. They would like to install WebIntelligence to report on the existing Informix databases. Also, they would like the repository to be on an Informix instance. Is there any way to achieve this?

Yes, when I was in support in the old days, I successfully got a customer connected to Informix SE 5.0 from a Windows NT client. It was a long and involved case, took me two months to resolve it, but if I remember correctly, the resolution turned out to be sure that the Informix DLL was in the PATH on the client. It was a weird one, because I could have sworn that we checked that and it was there, but something must have been preventing the middleware from recognizing it.

For Informix, you also have to make sure that you have entries in the services and hosts files for the server(s) in question, as, unlike Oracle, the Informix middleware refers to system settings for these instead of maintaining its own configuration files.

Keep in mind that this was back in the 4.0.x days; I don’t know if 4.1.x or 5.x have the same support for it. The PAR on the BO site should list it if so. If you have any trouble getting it to work, support should be able to find an extremely well-documented case in their archives. If you want to contact me privately, I can give you hints to pass on to them to help them find it. (I remember the name of the customer and the company she worked for. I think I might even be able to recall her phone number if I try hard enough… )
