Why we need Information platform services ? what is the purpose of installing IPS ?

In case you have Data services 4 and older version (R2) on Business Objects Suite.

In this case, Installing IPS will help you use CMC features associated with the Tool.

Now-- There Must be more usage/advantages of Installing IPS (Which ofcourse I am not aware of).

The main use that comes from IPS is creatin/maintaining users and security for BODS from the CMC, monitoring the applications/jobs from CMC and facilitating the connections for the Information Steward are few of the important stuff I consider for DS/Info Steward.

So if u are on BI Platform 4.0 (meaning the BO Enterprise) then you can think of leveraging the same CMC of BI Platform and no need of IPS. But it is a decision from the ETL Team to have or not to have a separate CMC for themselves or not.

can u pls brief on the purpose of the auditing and monitoring databases required during installation of the IPS.?

There really isn’t. IPS is a stripped down version of the BO CMC - minus all the (resource hungry) reporting servers.

But it literally shares the same code base and installation process as the normal BO CMC which is where the audit database came from. But in terms of Data Services, I really see no purpose for it. Data Services maintains it’s own change log through the Central Repository - if you wish to use that.
