Info View Dashboarding

Hi All,

My company has just bought crystal server and crystal reports. I want to be able to create dashboards from the BO info view. I’m having some problems though.

Say i want to add a traffic light dash feature, i drag it to the workspace, then i click the little spanner to edit, then i try to click select data to display-> define query but nothing happens??

I’ve tried importing a crystal report and linking the 2 but i still can’t add any measures to the traffic lights.
Is there something i need to set up first??
Do i need a specific license to do this??
Do i have to use excelsius to do this, i was hoping not??

Can anyone please point me in the right direction, many thanks. spin

Do you have any universes created? To use the Analytics (like Traffic Lights) in Dashboard Builder you need a universe to build the query from.

Thanks tmarion,

no, i’ve not built a universe yet?? I don’t actually know (yet) what a universe is. Where do i set this up?? Crystal, Info View, server???

Can someone please point me in the right direction, i just want some pretty dashboards i can look at.

Thanks, spin.

Ok i’ll try a new approach.

I have crystal server 2008 and crystal reports.

Do i need extra software to create a universe??

Do i need something to be able to use the dashboard builder?

Thanks.

Dashboard required additional license
Crystal Reports server and crystal reports is only reporting solution
to design universe you need to have BusinessObjects Enteprise license which has Universe designer

For Dashboard Manager setup, you need to first setup BusinessObjects Enterprise Performance Management repository which is diff from BusinessObjects repository. Go through following guide for setting it up

After completing the EPM Repository setup, you need to design universe, called as “Metric Universe” for Dashboard/Performance Manager

To build dashboard go through following guide

Hope this helps

I’m not sure you need BOE to get Designer. Since Dashboard Builder is included with CR Server and the Analytics require a universe then you should have Designer with CR Server.

For the OP, this is not Crystal Reports Designer or Business Views Manager. It is a Business Objects product called Designer. It should be available with yoiur installation under the CR Server Group in windows

Thanks for the replies all,

i’m hoping tmarion is right. Why have the dashboard builder feature with CR Server if i can’t use it??

Do i need a named user license to access that part of CR??

No. Concurrent licensing will work. It’s just another form of data you are accessing from Crystal Server

hi Spinkung

Did you ever get this working? I have the same problem. When i click define query nothing happens. I have not set up any universes. Do I need to do this?

Yes, you need to create a universe. Define Query uses a universe for the query

thanks for the update.
I’m a new user of xcelcius and crystal server 2008. How do I create a universe and what tools do I need?
Thanks

You use a client tool named Designer. It should be available from the Busioness Objexcts XI 3.1 | BusinessObjects Enterprise folder on your computer if yoiu have the client tools installed. If you haven’t installed Client Tools on your computer yu should be able to execute it from the same location on the server.
