[:fbae1c7503]The Anatoli is huge. Outside of Vegas casinos, it is the biggest hotel I have been to.
[:fbae1c7503]Parking is going to be steep - $17/day
[:fbae1c7503]I checked in and asked how many people had signed up for my presentations. Sadly, they couldn’t tell me
[:fbae1c7503]I then went over to the vendor area. SAP has a very large space. There were ~20 other vendors
[:fbae1c7503]Waiters were everywhere with hors d’oeuvres. I liked the spring rolls and the empanadas the best
[:fbae1c7503]I attended a presentation on the BusinessObjects Community at sap.com. I checked out boc.sap.com about a year ago and was unimpressed, but they have apparently grown significantly since then
[:fbae1c7503]I was hoping to meet some Bobsters. I met Werner and I think I saw Michael Welter at a distance, but I never found the BOB hang out spot
[:fbae1c7503]I was surprised at how passive some vendors were. There was one vendor were the guy manning the booth had his back to the hallway and was checking something on his computer. Another vendor booth had a woman who never got out of her chair during the multiple times I passed by. May be it was just bad timing
[*:fbae1c7503]One thing that surprised me was that I didn’t see one mention of Oracle in the vendor area. I only do development against Oracle.
There were a number of “BOBBERS” up toward the front area (near the entrance doors near the bar…surprise!)…
I hope we get to meet up soon!
The hotel is huge. Having been at the same hotel for the conference last year…I requested the tower room…only to find out that a lot of this year’s conference is being held more in the Atrium area…
The vendor area was very small. I don’t think the vendors were happy to be working on Sunday. In the previous 10 conferences I’ve attended as a customer or a vendor, this was never the case.
I think some of us were surprised that there was very little food. The hotel restaurants are pretty pricey, so many were hoping they would be able to turn this into dinner.
Attendance is VERY low. I’ve heard that it’s less than 1000. The high water mark was a few years ago at well over 2000.
But, it’s nice to see everyone. The best part: I don’t think Eileens spilled anything on anyone, including herself.
I agree with Steve, there was very little food at the reception, and few vendors compared to years past. But it was good seeing so many BOBbers. Dennis, I didn’t see you, but I’m not sure I’d know you by site.
Which is the problem. Dave is the only Bobber I have met before and that was over 10 years ago. I tried discretely standing at the edge of groups and reading badges, but I never managed to see any names that I recognized. My feet had hit their limit and I was about to go when I think I saw your name on a tag. If it was you, you then went into the SAP area and shook hands with some workers there. I decided to not interrupt and just go home.
If you see anyone wearing a polo shirt with a Mickey Mouse on it, it’s me.
Hi - thanks for your impressions Dennis. FYI - we are also on twitter providing updates on the conference. Our hashtag #SBOUC.
BTW - we have over 1,000 registrants for the conference this year, higher than we expected with today’s economic conditions. Come visit me at the booth Dennis - I’d love meet you!
In the past years DataIntegrator (well it’s called DataServices these days) was mentioned in a side note, if that. This time mentioned multiple times as integral part of any solution and demoed for solid five minutes!
