Impressions of Monday at GBN User Conference
[:cfb637a205]I missed the breakfast
[
:cfb637a205]The first half of the keynote address was high-level consultant talk that didn’t mean anything to me
[:cfb637a205]The second half was a demo of Explorer, which seemed pretty slick
[
:cfb637a205]The keynote went to 9:15, which was when the next round of sessions was supposed to start
[:cfb637a205]I had signed up for “Introduction to Xcelsius” through the website, but I needed to sign up yesterday at the conference as well. Consequently, I didn’t get in
[
:cfb637a205]I was late to “SAP BusinessObjects: Semantic Layer and the Universe - What? Why? How?” I was really disappointed because it was about how to build the Island Resorts universe and some reports - really intro level
[:cfb637a205]Next, I went to “Building an Interactive Dashbaord in 60 Minutes or Less”. I thought it was a good intro/overview to Xcelsius with some best practices thrown in. They also showed a couple of complex dashboards at the end to give us a taste of what can be done
[
:cfb637a205]I had lunch with Michael Welter and Joe. I thought lunch was pretty good - salad, mac and cheese, a chicken dish and a beef dish. The cheesecake was yummy
[:cfb637a205]After lunch, I attended Michael’s “Lost in the Universe” session. Lots of good tips for building a universe
[
:cfb637a205]I then went to Steve Krandel’s “Implementing Row-Level Security with Universe Design” session. It was a good discussion of RLS and various options in Bus Obj for security
[:cfb637a205]For my last session, I attended “Advanced Crosstabs and Functions for WebI XI 3.1”. The presenter talked like someone from an infomercial, but he had a lot of good material to go through. I enjoyed it
[
:cfb637a205]Back to the vendor area for more food and drink. I thought the food tonight was not as good as the food last night
[*:cfb637a205]I am presenting tomorrow - “OLTP Universe Design” at 4:00 pm. I hope also to see more Bobbers tomorrow - I will be the person wearing an Oxford shirt with a Mickey Mouse on it
I just finished writing up a high-level blog post about my first day activities. I didn’t get to lunch (had a new laptop and needed to make sure the audio/visual was all working).
