We are just starting on a new DW project,at the moment the warehouse is being loaded and Datamart being identified. I believe there will be around 8 or 9 facts tables.
Reports specs are also being written.
I am thinking at the moment that having one big universe might be the easiest option if possible (bearing in mind that there is not much information available at this stage).
What would be the reason for having several universe specially if we are going to develop Web report in Version 5 or may be version XI in which I understand webi does not support multi dataprovider.
After indentifying the business requirements what would be the best approach to creating the Universe (s).

In answer to your question this has been discussed many times on the forum. In summary though If your datamart is designed properly your universe design should be quite straightforward. Whether you have it in one big universe or not would depend on how many classes, objects contexts etc you will end up with. Don’t forget that the Universe is there to facilitate report writing, If you make it too big and/or complicated the users may have difficulty navigating round and finding the information they require.
In fact Webi 6.5 does allow multiple data providers, what it does not allow is the synchronisation of these providers. This should be available in XIR2 due out later this year.

What would you consider has a well design datamart ? If I have 4 o 5 datamart would that mean I can still have one universe or would it be better to have 1 universe per datamart ?
