How to work with multiple dataproviders

Hi All,

I have few doubts regarding using of multiple dataproviders. I am presently working with Desktop intelligence reports. if we are building the report on single universe, when we need to consider multiple data providers to develope report. next how we link those multiple dataproviders.

Please give me an understanding regerding this.

Hi GCB,

You can find the more information in Universe User guide or you can search the forum as if you have some perticular requirement.

Basically we use more than one data provider when one data provider is not able to give analytical data. so more than one query is required to anlysis the data. We link data from these data providers based on the some common dimension to synchronise the data from two data provider.

For example, Consider the sales department as per their business the sets some future targets and they need report to find where they are from future goal. So they need the report to find the variance betweeen actual status and expected status. Actaul status can easily available from database but for expected they have to create some excel sort of the thing and put there product and expected business and it is nothing but other data provider. Then they have to merge these two data base on the some common dimension to syncronise data from these data providers.

Hi,

As an addition to jagsurya’s explanation, linking of data providers is done in DeskI in Data Manager (menu Data -> View Data).

This is all described in the DeskI guide.

You may have to use multiple dataproviders where you are required to bring measure data for different conditions OR mutiple measures for different conditions. It all depends upon the report requirement from the business.
