How to set up/configure BI Admin Studio

Hi all,

we would like to enable the BI Admin Studio in 4.3 SP3, but besides from some CMC related settings (rights etc), there seems to be no documentation available on how to set it up in the first place, as in:

  • Which technical components are neeeded?
  • Other settings (Firewall/ Ports, connections,…)
  • What database to use? Is the Audit Data Store a good option or not?
  • How is the data stored? Are new tables necessary and how are they created?
  • is the data loggin similar to the auditing, i.e. just new events with new types or completely different?
  • Could the data be used to feed it into another monitoring application?
  • Anything else we need to think about?

Any help would be highly appreciated!

There’s a whole section on the BI Admin Studio in the Administrator Guide.

I strongly suggest you go through the watch lists and turn of writing to the trending database. I haven’t found a very useful case for it yet and it just fills up your database. They do recommend that you use your Auditing database for this but you can do what ever you want. Our watchlists are configured to really only monitor if the services are down or not running properly. They are configured to send an email to our corporate alerting system if there is a problem.

We also set up Probes to monitor our system.
