I have one version of aCrystal Reports XI report object already in Enterprise XI, and it has a schedule/rights/category etc assigned.
There is a change done to the report, now we have to move this changed report object into Enterprise XI.
When I publish using object from CMC, it “thinks” it is a new object and gives me a duplicate object name error. Alternative, seems to be, to delete the object and then go again. But I lose all the scheduling/rights/category etc assigned to the object, and have to recreate all of that.
Qn: Is there a way to publish the latest version of report object to Enterprise XI with out losing existing linkages/schuedules etc.
Sounds like a straight forward admin requirement. Right ?
I think your problem is publishing as “new” object. I am still learning XI myself, but in the past, when you promote an updated version of a report, the application is smart enough to know that you are replacing the old instance with the new instance. Therefore, you might want to change your way of promoting updated version of report.
From CR designer (not enterprise) open the Repository Explorer (similar to the field explorer), log on, and pull the report you’re looking for directly from enteprise. Make changes. Save back directly to enterprise.
If you open from a location other than how i just described, when you go to save it will be a new object, new metadata, etc. and you will not accomplish what you’re aiming to…
But, we use visual source safe for version control and our process is to import/publish the latest version from a file on a specific folder outside enterprise. hence the question.
Also, what is up with Publishing wizard ? It doesnt assign categories as specified. (that was just venting… I will open a new thread on that)
