Recently BO upgrade is happened from XI R2 to R3 (BO 3.1) version in one of my project. The upgrade was successfull, but due to some reason, I have to point my Application again to XI R2 System.
The scenario is :
XI R2 and R3 both are present on the server now.
BO Application is pointing to R3 (BO 3.1 version) right now.
I am trying to change the path (where BO has Installed) from New to old folder (e.g: D:\Program Files\Business Objects_R2 to D:\Program Files\Business Objects) but it giving me the attached error.
I have restarted the server but the issue is still the same.
Since, I am new to BO, please help me in identifying the issue and how to resolve it so that I can use the BO application again which is pointing to XI R2.

You won’t be able to use the 3.1 content in XIr2 anyway, as you have migrated it, there is no backward compatability.
Do you have the content on your XIr2 system, do you still have the XIr2 filestore and CMS database?
Please tell us why you have to do this? There may be some other way around.
I would suggest that dpending on what you still have, with regards to XIr2, your limited skills will limit what you could achieve in any case.
yes I have Business Objects folder, File store and CMC of XI R2 with me. The reason behind doing such activity is few OLAP reports were not migrated to 3.1 due to licencing issue. Now, there is some enhancement requirement came in the same reports which are not migrated in 3.1.
So the idea is to point the application back to R2 so that I can start woking on the new requirement.
Please suggest with the old filestore and Business Objects folder can I point it back to XI R2.
So the old XIr2 system is now off line? You won’t be able to re-point as you suggest. You are supposed to be able to run side by side, although I have never tried.
Can you still see the XIr2 services on your server, are they all stopped? You could try stopping everything on the 3.1 instance and start up the Xir2 services. it all depends on what you still have intact.

The servers that haven’t started will have written some logging out. For example, on Windows you might look at the event viewer.
Is the XIr2 CMS database available and up and running? Paswords could have changed for accessing file stores / CMS database…so many things that could be wrong here. There is no way to troubleshoot this without looking at logs etc
