How to migrate security from BI4 4.1 to fresh BI4 4.2

Hello, and thank you all in advance for your help.

I am an occasional BusinessObjects admin, handling basic troubleshooting tasks. I (foolishly) volunteered to install BI4 4.2 (SP07) fresh and migrate our content from 4.1 (SP07).

I discovered the Promotion Management Wizard last week, but have had some trouble with it. Before using it, I configured Windows AD authentication and synced all of our AD groups on the new environments.

I then did some experiments using the Wizard to migrate one department at a time; all the objects come across fine, but I expected the security would easily go with them and it didn’t.

Surely there’s a way.

I have tried live-to-live transfer and export-to-lcmbiar.

Also, the resulting log files have largely been null, whether I choose default, low, medium or high level.

I am using PMW build 14.2.7.3069.

What do you think?

From your screenshot, it appears like you didn’t select object security - maybe that’s why it didn’t come across.
