I am trying to build a WebI report based on the BI platform CMS system database universe. I just want to know what objects are in a given universe and the SQL for each object. Is that possible?
It seems there are just breadcrumbs of information to be found. There is this blog post…
Get more insights with BI CMS Data Access Driver - add Objects or Virtual Tables
There is this thread on this very forum…
Reports Based on unx universe from BI platform CMS system database Universe
I just haven’t been able to put the pieces together.
@JohnBClark, can you drop some knowledge here?
Thanks,
Noel
Not possible unless there’s some magic in the universe that I’m not aware of. Universe content (including tables, classes, joins, objects, etc.) are not stored in the CMS, but in the .unv and unx files in the FRS.
I wrote a Java application a long time ago (that we still use) that extracts universe info and loads it into a database. It’s fairly complex.

I misread @JohnBClark’s “list of all of the objects that relate to a specific universe” as the objects in a specific universe. I see now it is all the reports that use a specific universe. Bummer.

Yeah, I read it the same way as first and was wondering what magic he had pulled.
Sorry for the confusion guys. Sometimes I get to referring to everything as “objects” and don’t think to clarify as well as I should. I’ll try to do better.
Edit: Added a clarification to the original post, hopefully that will help.
