How to completely remove SAP client installations

Hi Gurus,

I am having some issues uninstalling and installing some SAP Client Tools (the BOBJ Client Tools, in particular). The background: I already have Version 4.2 SP04 installed in my machine and managed to successfully uninstall it. I need to downgrade to Version 4.1 SP6 in order to fulfill a client requirement. I found Note 2485676, which basically says that if 4.2 has graced my computer, I won’t be able to go back to a lower version, ever. What happens is that even if I run the installer as an administrator, I get an issue about “Assertion Failed”. I get this error message if I try to uninstall my other SAP appplications like Dashboard and Data Services Designer.

I managed to find Note 1691555 which details how to completely remove all components so you can start fresh, but only seems to work for servers and not Clients. Is there a way for me to do something similar to the effect of 1691555 but only for my CLient machine?

I’m pretty sure the procedure for completely removing server software will also work for the client tools.

I’m trying to use the script provided in Note 1691555 but it seems to require an installation of the BI Platform for the script to run properly: Running the script says it fails to find BO Installation. I have Lumira, BOBJ Client Tools, Dashboards and Data Services Designer.

I might need to do a reformat to clean up all my stuff and just use VMWare so I can maintain multiple versions. It’s either that or do manual removal, as trying to uninstall the other applications also result in an assertion error (except Lumira which I’m uninstalling for the last two hours now).

I haven’t used the script, but following the step-by-step instructions worked for me.

The script may be just for servers. I’ve used it and it works very well for server installations. It does remove any client tools that may be installed in addition to the server components. But as you observed, it may require server components to function or it may be failing if it doesn’t find the server components.

You may have to follow the instructions for a case where only the client tools need to be removed.
