We have simplified one of our universes. It now has fewer tables (and joins), and requires fewer contexts.
Hence, the universe now has some empty contexts (i.e, they have a name, but no joins). We can’t figure out how to delete these contexts from the universe (to simplify it).
I’ve tried going through the manual, the online help, every drop-down menu and right-click I can think of, the BusinessObjects Tech Support KnowledgeBase, and the BUSOB-L archives. I can’t find a way to delete an unneeded context.
In designer make sure you are in “List Mode” to show the tables, Joins, and Contexts windows. In the context window select the context to be deleted and right click on the context name and choose “Clear” from the menu.
I just tested this against an existing universe in our test environment.

I had previously tried the Clear from the List Mode, but it did not Delete the context. I think it must just remove joins from the context – but mine was already empty at that point. I wanted to clean up and totally remove the Context from the list.
Leslie Cords had written:
In Designer, Select View - List Mode. Click on the context you want do delete and hit Delete.
This indeed did work. It’s funny that it wasn’t documented anywhere. Also, you’d think that “Delete” would be a right-click choice.
I have another question for you all, then. If I wish to substitute Join B instead of Join A in an existing Context, how do I do that? I just can’t seem to find documentation on modifying previously defined contexts!

Thank you both,

From the Context window in “List Mode” double click on the context to be modified.
This will bring up the Context edit window for that context. The joins included in the context will be highlighted. Click on the join to be removed, it will no longer be highlighted. Then click on the join to be added and it will become highlighted.
In the tables window you should see the effected tables get “highlighted” during these operations which is visual confirmation that the tables exist in the context.

Again in list mode, either double-click the context you wish to change, or select it and right click|context properties - all you have to do then is deselect join a and select join b. Make sure that the ‘Show selected only’ checkbox is unchecked otherwise you will not be able to change the joins.
INSERT:
a) use the right click context menu: insert context b) use the main menu (Insert context)
c) use the “detect contect” functionality d) select multiple joins (ctrl-click) and right-click with “insert context” this will insert exactly the selected joins into a new context.
UPDATE:
a) double click on context name in list-window and modify the joins (click=select/deselect)
b1) click on context name (all relevant joins are selected), change th selection by ctsl-clicking on other joinjs (to add or remove) b2) right click on “insert context” which inserts the “new” set of joins as a new context
b3) delete the original context
DELETE:
a) click on the context name in the list window and press DEL key on keyboard.
b) …
hope his helps.

Using BO 5.0: Just right-click on the Context-name and choose ‘Clear’. Bye, bye, context!

Tis has got to be the most extreme example of a necro thread that I’ve ever seen. 13 Years! @OP, You should probably start a new thread and try to put in a little bit of detail around your requirements
