How do I find gradient?

Hi Everyone,

Is there a way to find out the gradient of a line of data in a graph when using Xcelsius 2008?

I would like to link a trend icon to the gradient of the line of best fit in a graph so the trend icon will show UP if the graph gradient is going up and the trend icon will show DOWN if the graph gradient is going down.

I understand how to insert the graph equation (y = mx + b) into a cell in the workbook using trend analyzer but how can I only show the gradient value “m” in a cell for me to link to the trend icon?

Many thanks,

Sura

hi there!

in your trend analyzer component property there’s a “More Options” section there below the data insertion. i’m not sure if that’s what your looking for but you can show the used formula and the value of r2 and f. just take a look if that’s what you want.

r.A.

Thanks r.A.

I’ve used the “more options” section to display the used formula which i’m assuming is usual mathematical graph equation of y = mx = b.

But I dont know what r2 and f stands for… any thoughts?

Thank you,

Sura

hi there!

i tried manually computing using the y = mx + b formula and in the tutorial that i have it required me to get the value of r2. but after looking at the whole process r2 is not used in either of all the formulas. so it would be much easy not to bother with the value of r2. (but of course it’s bothering!) hehehe!

cheers!
