I current have universe named “Accounting_NEW” and another universe named “Accounting_OLD”. I would like the users to use “Accounting_NEW” and hide “Accounting_OLD” but the reports previously created from this universe would still work. This would force the users to use “Accounting_NEW” not “Accounting_OLD”. I tired a similar approach https://bobj-board.org/t/198503 but this did not work.
I’ve gone the route of hiding all the objects in the universe. This prevents users from creating new reports, but exisitng reports still run. It does allow users to copy and edit existng reports, as long as they don’t want to include new objects.
I’ve also decided that there is no place for sublety in the universe name and I’ve renamed some universes I want to retire. Which is why you might see a universe titled “OBSOLETE - DO NOT USE”. If you rename, use the CMC, not Designer.
If you deny the security setting "Create and Edit Queries Based on Universe, it should:
Prevent new documents from being created on the universe
Prevent the query of existing documents from being edited
Hides the universe from the list of universes presented when creating new documents
