We have a fully loaded deskI report meaning, tonnes of variables with complex formulas and when we tried to convet it to webi using Report Conversion tool. It partially converted and when we tried to view the report, the format was not right and the in the place of variables #error, datatype error were being displayed. Has Anyone experienced this?

Yes all the deski features are not under WebIntelligence. You have 3 kinds of conversion :

you can convert only those report which are compatible with WEBI.
as a rule of thumb if you have table and cells aligned using specific values from Foramt apearance in full client, you get better view in webi.

I’ve been a BO contractor since v4. I’ve just started playing around with .rep to .wid conversion in XIr2. To put it mildly I’m not impressed.
A simple 2 tab test report. Tab one has a break table with a couple calculations, The second tab has the break value pulled out to a section, a footer row added, the measures summed and then the table folded to show only the subtotal row. not a complicated report at all and fairly elementary formatting. I’ve done alot trickier stuff than that over the last 7 yrs.
I skeptically fired up the conversion utility and performed a “successful” conversion. I like the little disclaimer that the report definition is OK but MINOR formatting changes may have occured. (or words to that effect). Unless the universe changes suddenly mid conversion of course the report definition would be OK. sheesh.
I expected the report to open and see the 2nd tab’s table unfolded. But I got Error: INF instead. I cannot even open the report.
If the conversion has trouble with this simple report I cannot imagine it converting anything but the most basic of reports. basically ad-hoc data dumps with minor color changes etc.
Like the previous post states. it’ll probably convert anything that is compatible with WEBI functionality. And that historically has been pretty lacking. hence all the FC reports out there.
Job security eh? Looks like there’ll be lots of work rewriting FC client reports to Crystal because they sure won’t convert to .wids. This of course has it’s own issues as Crystal doesn’t play well with universes 100% of the time. So clients will need to create business views for Crystal and continue to maintain the universe for simple WEBI ad-hoc reports.
yep they really outsmarted themselves when they dropped FC from the line-up. I only hope they change the product direction and leave deski in the suite for a long time to come.

I just started converting some simple reports and on one got the same thing travelinmike got; “The document contains no reports; Error INF”, and this was after it “successfully” converted. I’m not sure what to do with this now. Is anyone else experiencing this?

im with you mike. I am not impressed with the report conversion tool whatsoever. I had converted a few small reports used for a training, that were developed and they were far from complex, and even those didnt come out right.
Useless if you ask me.

I’m also having some difficulties with the report conversion tool. My problems are little more basic in that the conversion fails on a very simple report with the error
Failed: Not converted, Universe not found
However, I know the universe exists - I’ve run the report.
Does anyone know if there is a help doc for the report convesion tool (one of the many pdfs installed with the product perhaps?).

please use the report conversion tool guide before concluding it as bug.
This lists all the items that will be converted and also those which can error out.
Look up on the documentation site

Change the Product to DeskTop Intelligence and pick up the Report conversion tool.

You can now find the documentation for the Report Conversion Tool on the SAP Help Portal. Unfortunately (for me), I’m poking around on BOB today looking for insight on the XI R2 version.
