Hardware recommendation for 5.1.8

Currently, we are running V5.1.6 on Win 2K SP3 on machines with 4 700MHz CPUs and 4 1GB RAM. We have about 500 named users and on average 15 concurrent users. We are specking out a new machine to replace the main cluster machine for an upgrade to V5.1.8 on Win 2k SP4 and wondering what people would recommend… Also, planning on next year in 2nd quarter to migrate to 6.X and this new machine needs to handle 6.x plus replace the remaining machines. I have minimum specs from BO for both V5.1.8 and V6.5. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Mike

I would recommend staying with 5.1.6 and worry about upgrading to 6.x later. We upgrade from 5.1.7 to 5.1.8 and had to back it out because of known bugs that BO still has not fixed. We are waiting for 6.5.

Thanks for the information. What issue caused you to revert back to 5.1.7?

Reports that were sent to BCA where making the server crash. BO was eating up memory when trying to open documents. We use BCA pretty heavily both for production reports and users refreshing reports. This may or may be an issue for you.

We also had a 5.1.7 issue (supposed to be fixed in SP9) that caused one of our two CMs to simply never come back after a scheduled recycle. 5.1.6 sorted that.

Yes, we use BCA heavily to post reports. Have been stable on 5.1.6 for the past year and getting pushed on to apply MS SP4 to our environment. Has anyone applied this to 5.1.6?
