Google Search Appliance Integration

Good morning everyone.

My organization now has a Google Search Appliance at its disposal, and I have an opportunity to hook our XI R2 environment into it.

In short, I’m wondering if anybody has taken a swipe at utilizing this product with your deployment, what kind of business value was derived from integrating with it, and if there are any real “gotchas” that are either limitations or issues in using it.

Thanks,
V

I just thought I’d share my experiences with this piece of hardware so far.

First, the installer from the XI side was a snap. It creates the necessary program objects needed in order to run a bulk update to feed the Google Search Appliance. This was a very easy step. You can update the appliance at any supported XI schedule interval.

Second, the Google Search Appliance/OneBox configuration was very straight forward (so they tell me).

Lastly, the search options to integrate your XI documents into your enterprise collections search is awesome. It is really giving us an opportunity to highlight the enterprise data available in our platform to all users.

Single sign on is our next item to tackle for smooth integration from a Google search straight into an XI document.

More to come later I hope…
