hai All,
I am new to this field and have some basic questions
On what bases are functional documents prepared? suppose if given a task to create aggregate table’s for a particular data that that is in the warehouse.how should we proceed.

Functional Design Document Captures the high level design of the system,it can be either reporting or universe designing.

Hi

You should capture the Business Function behid of Creating Aggregation. This will get it through Business integrity rule document.

I have a client who is using the terms:

  • conceptual design
  • technical design
  • functional design

I prefer to go with

  • requirements (what does the business want and need)
  • design (high-level design on an architecture level)
  • detailed design (more like a blueprint for building the solution that can be handed over to a “mere” developer/coder)

There is nothing to share, these are just parts of standard project management approach.

BusinessObjects has customized the standard Project Management terminology (see PMI) and re-named it BISA. If you work directly with a Business Objects consultant (read: from Global Services Business Objects) she/he might follow the BISA approach and would provide you with BISA documents.

I suggest getting a good book on project management (PMI is a good resource), for some lighter reading on Project Management you might try T. DeMarco: The Deadline (it is an Okay book, but not great IMHO).

I have been asked to submit a detailed design Document. I did review the High level documnent but it just seems so ambigious . could not get anything out of it.

Is a detailed design document similar to report specifications?
Can someone please tell me how to go about creating a detail design document?
