Format for Messages - dropped/received into/Out of Queue

Hi

What are the possible Mesage Formats that can be dropped into and received from the Queue

I could mainly see the XML Format Messages.

If we can receive/drop plain Text Messages, then can some one help me understand how that should be done!!!

XML payload only.

Even if I dont define a XSD, DTD format, for a very simple single element message, the Queue is receiving a XML message without any issues.

Also, one small query. If my sender is only sending a plain text message, is there a way to predict it as XML Message from our side?
