First-time user can't add components to blank canvas

Hello, and thank you in advance for the help. I’m a first-time user of SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards (4.1 SP 2 Version 14.1.2.1121) [Xcelcius.exe]. I am also using Microsoft Office 2013.

On the Start Page, under NEW, I click Model with Spreadsheet Data, then select sample_data.xlsx from my Desktop. When I close the Start Page, I can see the canvas area and my data in the embedded Excel pane. (See attached screen shot.)

When I click the Components tab, click Pie Chart, then click on the canvas, nothing happens. I have also tried to drag Pie Chart and other objects onto the canvas, but still nothing happens.

Is there something wrong with me, or something wrong with the install?

It’s possible your Flash is corrupted. This occurred to almost all during the most recent Flash update producing the same symptoms. I would suggest removing Flash and reinstalling Adobe Flash.

Side note: After some effort, I found the full “distribution”/offline version of the Flash Player at https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
