I have to meet with my business users to review each data element in the Universe and determine a common business definition for each. Is there a way that I can extract the metadata about a universe into a word document so that I can format and distribute it?

you can either save universe into the PDF format (File → Save As → select PDF as type) or you can use this utility from Dwayne Hoffpauir that extracts all universe metadata into the excel sheet.

If you are focusing solely on collecting business definitions, you might find this utility even more useful. It’s designed to actually “push” the collected definitions back into the universe, where they are available to end users in the query panel. Just another option.
