Exporting Crystal Report to XLS 97-2000 Data only issues

Hi,

I am using Crystal Report XI Release 2.

After running the report in Crystal Report Enterprise, I am trying to export the report in XLS format ( Microsoft XLS 97 -2000 Data only ).

The report is getting exported but all of sudden there are empty COLUMNS in Excel file ( these empty columns are not present in report ) .

I want that EXCEL file should not have EMPTY columns in its output.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please let me know the following:

 1. Whether report exports fine when you export it using Crystal Reports XI R2 Designer.
 2. Which version of Crystal Enterprise are you using?
 3. What options are selected while exporting the report to Microsoft XLS 97 -2000 Data only in Crystal Enterprise.
 4. Is this the only report which has this issue?

Regards
Manish

Hi Diablog,
Do you use guidelines when you write the reports?
Excel exporting can be very fussy and it’s best if you’re writing extract type reports to use guidelines to link column headers and fields together so there is no white space between them as this is often the cause of extra columns.
If you’re writing a more complex report where objects in different sections may need to be different sizes or in different positions then you may need to experiment somewhat and use the straight Excel export option.

Thanks for your reply.

FYI : I am using different sizes for each header (as per my requirement ).

So any thoughts on that ??

I have the most luck when all the headers and fields are the same height and are aligned at the top. If a field is a little off it it can look like it is on a different line and the export doesn’t come out the way you want.

As tbrady says, keeping fields/sections in the same size/position is the safest bet but if your requirements are to have different heights on the header sections, you could try creating the headers that will hold the actual fields, setting top and bottom guidelines that link to the top and bottom of the fields, then sizing the headers so they’re the same height as the fields (exactly).
Where you have requirements for the headers to be bigger, try adding a number of headers, exactly the same size either above or below instead of expanding the existing.
You may need to play around with this a bit but you should be able to get Excel exports to treat each header header section as one row in the sheet to avoid objects overlapping and looking messy.
