Export to excel greyed out

Hi,

We are on XI3.1. and use IE7 and IE8.

When we create a new Webi report, we can immediately export it to Excel with “Save as Excel”, without first saving the report.

But when we modify an existing report and we want to export it to excel from edit mode, without saving it, it doesn’t seem to be possible (the “save as excel” option is greyed out).

Some of our users want to be able to do so. They could save it, re-open it and then export it, but since they have no delete rights (for safety reasons), this leads to many temporary reports in the system which admin needs to clean up.

Any idea what could be causing this problem?

Thanks.

Andy

I “think” you are referring to a “view” issue - i.e. if you are in “Structure” view it will not save as excel - get them to click “View Results” and try again if this is indeed the problem.

Hope this helps

PS - stop using IE! Start using a “real” web browser (e.g. Firefox - to get FF8 working nicely with Infoview go to about:config and disable HTML5 Parsing)

Thanks for the feedback.

We are not in structure view but in results view

As for IE, we use it for easier integration with SharePoint (some functionality of SP doesn’t work in Chrome or FF)

Hi,

I found this topic through the search function, I’m having the same problem as mentioned above with the “excel” being greyed out under “Save as …”, after saving the WEBI document. only option not grey is the PDF, but I would need the excel :expressionless:

also for me even saving & re-opening does not restore the export to excel function. in a new document exporting to excel works just fine.

does anyone have any ideas or suggestions why exporting to excel would suddenly become grey after just saving the document?

Pass…

Presumably you have no issues when using Rich Client as it is browser independent? Depending on your install, go to “Preferences” in InfoView and under “Web Intelligence” there should be an “Install Now” button next to “Desktop” in the “Select a default creation/editing tool” section. You can also choose to install it from the Client tools section of the R3.1 installer. If you are the type of user frequently in Edit mode in InfoView I would strongly suggest Rich Client as an alternate means of working. Added benefit = no more time-outs.

If you come out of edit mode (i.e. close after saving, go back to the folder structure then “View” the WEBI in Web or Interactive mode) is “Save as Excel” then OK? Formatting/properties certainly work in those modes. Which is unhelpful for an author/analyst!

Related: we are experiencing a multitude of issues with IE7 and Java (build 1.7.0_05-b05) - mainly the “properties” (and font/cell formatting toolbar) being greyed out or blank. Our IT guys are reluctant to install any patches for some reason.

FF13; the HTML5 parsing workaround no longer works.

 Have you tried installing IE6…

In all honesty this isn’t as crazy as it sounds. Java and Browser updates are what will have likely caused the issues. Reverting to a nasty old browser purely for InfoView work is something I’m considering doing.
