EXCEPTION ILLEGAL INSTRUCTION

Listers,

I have a customer who is getting the Unhandled Exception error, but it doesn’t say “Exception Access Violation”, it gives the code C0000001D with the description of Exception Illegal Instruction. (I looked it up and opened a ticket, but to no avail yet…)

He had the software reinstalled, but it still gives this message. I am thinking that they didn’t properly de-install (delete all the files). Does anyone else have any suggestions? I am planning to delete all BO files, and then try to reinstall it myself tomorrow.

Thanks so much,

Nancy

sometimes this error will occur if the universe cant be updated… maybe delete his local copy of whatever universe, see if BO can reimport …?

just a thought,
brent

First of all, try to verify that NT SPs are up to date (sometimes re-installation of NT SPs fixes alot of such problems).

Hope this helps

Nancy,

I also have a user/designer who is experiencing Unhandled Exception C0000001D every time he uses Business Objects against Oracle data. He has a client install from a master version BO 5.0.1 that is not giving any other users this problem. We use Oracle Client to Oracle 8.1. On the BO techsupport site there is a resolution for this error - reverting to version 4.21 of mfc42.dll, an older but more stable version of this dll. Rename the dll and re-install BO.
I went to this PC and searched his hard drive for this dll, he has 6 copies of it in various directories with at least 3 different versions. We are now trying to clean this up. The dll should reside in the Windows system (e.g. Winnt/system32) directory. I have had problems with duplicate dll files before.

I don’t know if this will help you, but it is something to check!
