Does BOB have a tool like Cognos/IBM Event Manager?

Short answer is no, but depending on the version you are… you could monitor events in some way via the Scheduler in XI 3.x…

You may have a look at add-ons maybe?

We have the current versions of all the BOB/Crystal tools.

Can you explain more about the Scheduler and any 3rd party tools that you would recommend?

Hi

Sorry did not see any tools on the link that you provided that support Business Event Management… Please be more specific.

To me Business Event Management is one of the most effective BI functions\categories of BI tools that we can offer and I am having a hard time believing that BOB does not offer such a tool or 3rd Party support???

My interpretation is that you are not looking for a tool to tell you when you are having hardware issues or slow repsonse.

I believe you’re asking for an actionable dashboard for users to tell them when certain events have happened within the data or the business.

Can you let us know which side of the system you’re looking for events to be reported on?

This BI functionality is known by: Alerts, Notifications, Business Event Management.

It is in my opinion it is one of the most powerful BI functions/Categories of BI that we can offer a Business as a BI Professional. It is a Pro-Active approach to BI. No need to go through pages of reports or reviewing Charts. You State the Condition that requires action, when that condition is met, the person responsible for Managing the Condition can be notified and action can be taken … If we are not providing actionable information then why are we spending the time/money/effort on the BI solution?

It sounds like you are describing the Performance Manager function of EPM. Have you checked that out? Are you using any features of the Enterpise Analytics?

Xcelsius is another part of the Dashboard tools.

I had already looked at the link. That’s why I asked the question of what type of events you wanted to report…

I look at the Trigger/Condition as its own component that would be setup through the Universe, Then in my mind it should be able to:

(Tasks)
Run a report(Crystal or WEBI)
E-mail to a Specific Distribution list pending who is responsible for the action.
Link one task to another, example; Run report then e-mail it
Call another Trigger/Event
Send a text message to a Blackberry device… or e-mail with Report attachment…

That is what I am looking for… That is POWERFUL… That’s BI!! :slight_smile:
