Error : WIS 30256

I am using WebI XI . I am trying to run query using universe, which runs fine, but when I try to see the sql generated by the query, it gives me the following error:

Component: WIS
ErrorCode: 30256
ErrorType: USER
Message: Your security profile does not include permission to view the SQL generated by the query. (Error: WIS 30256)

I am an administrator and I should have enough rights.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kurt

Solution or fix to this problem:

Log on to the CMC.
Click BusinessObjects Enterprise Applications > Web Intelligence > Advanced for the appropriate group.
Click the Explicitly Granted option for the right to View SQL.
Click Apply > OK.

I knew that and I have explicitly granted all the rights, but still it is not letting me see the SQL. This error started just after we installed Service Pack 3, maybe because of that something has gone wrong.

Just to make sure, where did you see right to View SQl. I thought it is equivalent to right to view the objects and modify them.

New bug to my opinion because checked all permission given on that thread, they are Ok and still facing the error message for all users ('including administrators)

Yup, looks like a new bug in SP3. Top level settings don’t seem to have an effect on this. Workaround is to save it to your favorites. Seems like maybe because the document has not been saved to a folder, top level folder permissions are not applied properly.

Same bug confirmed here with our SP3 upgrade.

Actually, I think rollings007 solution will work. It seems like SP3 added a new right (View SQL) to the Business Objects Applications area that may have previously only been part of the Folders area.

We had our Administrators set up for Granted all the way down and after we upgraded to SP3, noticed that one right, View SQL, was set to Not Specified. Probably a default for adding a new right.

Does anyone have an install of SP1 or SP2 to verify whether that right existed in Home->Business Objects Enterprise Applications->Rights?

I’ve confirmed that the “view sql” is new in SP3 under the cmc/BusinessObjects Enterprise Applications/Web Intelligence and granting security there does fix the issue so that you can view the sql before saving it. (SP2 only had this under cmc/settings and then within the WebIntelligence section.) Thanks!

I am receiving the same error , I am logging as an Administrator, and just now installed SP4.
What could be the reason??

Just installed SP5 (from SP 2) and the same Behavior is maintained. Fixed it by going to the CMC->BusinessObjects Enterprise Applications->Web Intelligence and clicking advanced and selecting granted (from not specified) for the view sql permission on all groups that needed it.

THANK YOU rollings007!

For what it’s worth I have had the same issue as many others here.
I just upgraded our Production environment to sp4 and found I could no longer view the generated SQL (as an Administrator).

When I went to “BusinessObjects Enterprise Applications” -> “Web Intelligence” -> “Advanced” rights for the Administrators group, the only option that was not Explicitly Granted was “View SQL” (it was set to Not Specified).

Once I changed it to Explicitly Granted, I could view SQL as required.

Cheers!

I also received the “Your security profile does not include permission to view the SQL generated by the query. (Error: WIS 30256)” error after a Service Pack 6 upgrade.

The same fix … Enter CMC > BusinessObjects Enterprise Applications > Web Intelligence > Advanced (for the relevant group) > Selecting “View SQL” resolved the issue
