I have a set of Crystal Reports that use a universe to connect to an Oracle DB. When viewing the reports on demand several of the reports are seemingly randomly failing with the error
Error in File [filename]: failed to retrieve data from the database.
We’re running the reports in a XI R2 SP5 system on solaris. The reports don’t fail when they’re being scheduled. They run sometimes when viewed on demand. Sometimes they throw this error. It’s the same when I schedule them. If I were in a windows environment, I’d just load CR on the server and see if I can return data with the report and troubleshoot from there.
The only possible, but still unconfirmed trend I may have with these reports is that it seems that the failures are more likely to occur when larger sets of parameter values are selected. If that’s the case, perhaps I’m running into some limit or timeout somewhere in the system. Since these reports are generally viewed on demand rather than scheduled, the first things I checked were that we weren’t running into a database records limit, but that shouldn’t be an issue with the job server.
Can anyone suggest anything?
