Error after MS security update

Hi Team,
We are using Business Objects XI 3.1 SP 5 version for our applications in Windows server. We see that after Windows team have installed the Windows Security update patch KB4041681 and KB4041678 in our Windows servers (where BOXI 3.1 is installed) in October month, the reports that are based on .xls file as input were not working and showed error while running.
Could you please advise why the reports based on .xls file is not compatible with the Security update ?
