Although I clicked “fit canvas to components”, I still have unwanted white space on the sides. How can that be eliminated, please?

I cant tell if the whitespace is on your SWF or not.
When you preview, do you see the whitespace ? If so, you might have hidden objects on the left or right. One way to tell if you have hidden or corrupt objects is to use the Object Browser and click each and every object to make sure it is positioned on the dashboard canvas where you thought it would be.
If there are no hidden components, then try creating an Iframe tag on the webpage and sizing the Iframe to the exact height/width of the canvas. This is what I do and I dont have troubles, even across different browsers.

use a container & put your objects in the container…then use the “fit canvas to container”

I am embarrassed not to have come back before but I used to receive emails when there was a reply and I didn’t see anything so I assumed nobody had written anything yet, so sorry for that and thank you.
On Cairmor’s idea, there is no white space in the preview or I would have worried earlier. That there is white spacein the finished article does seem bizarre so I may try the Iframe approach.
On Kraf’s idea, I think that means rebuilding from scratch! Actually, by picking a baclground stretched to the largest canvas available, and then fitting canvas to objects, I thought I had pretty well done that but maybe not.
When I can work on it further, I shall report back; thank you again.

Well, a fortnight later, I have got back to this and I am puzzled. There are no hidden objects and Preview looks fine. So I guess I’ll have to try the iFrame approach, thanks, anyway. Oh, I’ve just noticed that “notify” ws switched off.
