Why would someone go with the Edge product over the Enterprise product? From what I have read on the BO site, the only difference is that Enterprise comes with DeskI and Engage has a mobile BI feature. Unfortunately, I could not find a product matrix that would illuminate the differences between products.
BOXI Edge is the only product with a concurrent user license - 5, 10 or 15 users, BOXI Pro or Premium only have name user or processor licensing now. Makes a lot of sense for small\medium businesses because you can use ALL content types (Webi, Crystal, Xcelsius etc). To do that with regular BOXI you`d need to have a premium license which costs a lot lot more.
Edge and Enterprise are exactly the same product with the license key limiting the product depending on what was purchased.
And my sales rep claims that Deski is indeed a part of EDGE Standard. EDGE seems to be little more than a licensing trick to keep small companies aboard. The product suite contains almost all imaginable BO product, with the top concurrent bundle now 20 insted of 15 and even this will become highr and more flexible in the future.
We are considering stepping out of the Enterprise structure (after 8 years) and turn to EDGE.
Edge is only available to run on a single server with I think max 4 CPUs. not sure whether those CPUs includes cores etc but wil ltry and find out. I do believe that if you have Edge professional the Data Integrator component can be split onto its own server whereas previously it all had to run o nthe same server.
The Edge licensing model is very attractive for SME’s and as a consultant I love the CAL model. However I wouldnt be surpised to see CALs go by the wayside soon for Edge as SAP re-evaluates the licensing model.
With regards to stepping back to Edge from Enterprise this downgrade path currently doesn’t exist although that discussion would need confirmation from your sale reps.
